Normal forms for three-dimensional parametric instabilities in ideal hydrodynamics

چکیده
We derive and analyze several low dimensional Hamiltonian normal forms describing system symmetry breaking in ideal hydrodynamics. The equations depend on two parameters (e,2), where e is the strength of a system symmetry breaking perturbation and 2 is a detuning parameter. In many cases the resulting equations are completely integrable and have an interesting Hamiltonian structure. Our work is motivated by three-dimensional instabilities of rotating columnar fluid flows with circular streamlines (such as the Burger vortex) subjected to precession, elliptical distortion or off-center displacement.

Three Dimensional Stability Analysis of a Liquid Propellant Combustor
A theoretical study analyzing three-dimensional combustion acoustic instabilities in a liquid propellant rocket engine combustor has been conducted. A linear theory based on Crocco’s pressure sensitive time lag model is used. To apply this theory the combustor is divided into two main components, including the combustion chamber and the converging part of the nozzle. The assumption of concentra...
متن کاملDensity-Independent Smoothed Particle Hydrodynamics for a Non-Ideal Equation of State
The smoothed particle hydrodynamics (SPH) method is a useful numerical tool to study a variety of astrophysical and planetlogical problems. However, it turned out that the standard SPH algorithm has problems in dealing with hydrodynamical instabilities. This problem is due to the assumption that the local density distribution is differentiable. In order to solve this problem, a new SPH formulat...
متن کاملLow Mach Number Fluctuating Hydrodynamics of Multispecies Liquid Mixtures
We develop a low Mach number formulation of the hydrodynamic equations describing transport of mass and momentum in a multispecies mixture of incompressible miscible liquids at specified temperature and pressure that generalizes our prior work on ideal mixtures of ideal gases [K. In this formulation we combine and extend a number of existing descriptions of multispecies transport available in t...

In this study a Modified Compressible Smoothed Particle Hydrodynamics (MCSPH) method is introduced which is applicable in problems involve shock wave structures and elastic-plastic deformations of solids. As a matter of fact, algorithm of the method is based on an approach which descritizes the momentum equation into three parts and solves each part separately and calculates their effects on th...
متن کاملThree-dimensional instabilities in compressible flow over open cavities
Direct numerical simulations are performed to investigate the three-dimensional stability of compressible flow over open cavities. A linear stability analysis is conducted to search for three-dimensional global instabilities of the two-dimensional mean flow for cavities that are homogeneous in the spanwise direction. The presence of such instabilities is reported for a range of flow conditions ...
